The Case for Boring Interfaces
The most impressive design achievement is when no one notices you were there. Here is why ordinary is the new remarkable.

What we mean by boring
Boring, in this context, means invisibly functional. It means a navigation that never surprises you. A form that never makes you think about the form. A modal that appears exactly where you expected it and disappears exactly when you need it to. Boring interfaces do not make you feel anything about them. They make you feel something about the content and goals they contain. That is the entire point.
When novelty becomes friction
Every unconventional interface pattern you introduce requires the user to learn it. Most users will not. The best argument for conventional design is not laziness — it is respect for the user’s attention. Their cognitive load is finite. Make them spend it on what matters: your content, your product, your message. Not on figuring out where the menu is.
